Hypertension and Yoga
There are various levels of hypertension (high blood pressure) and not too many people are aware of this fact, nor are they aware that you can also treat blood pressure with a form of Yoga. Since we know that Yoga is great for many things it is no surprise at all that it is a wonderful treatment for high blood pressure as well.

First of all hypertension or high blood pressure will occur in a person's body when the blood in your body tends to go too high. Leading the rest of your body to go into overdrive. With high blood pressure there are many risks that will have to be watched for.

There are seven or so different types of tests that a doctor will do in order to see if you have high blood pressure. First off there is the blood pressure reading itself and if you are as high as one fourty over ninety then you know for sure that you have high blood pressure.

You should be aware that if you have high blood pressure then you become a target of all sorts of nasty diseases or afflictions to your body as a whole that perhaps you never were before. Examples of such diseases are heart attacks and stroke and Coronary Artery Disease, otherwise known as CAD.

Surely many of you out there are wondering if there is only one type of high blood pressure and sadly the answer is no, there are actually two different levels of high blood pressure that a person should look out for and one is just as bad as the other. Remember that untreated or uncontrolled high blood pressure most often leads to death in the victim.

Hypertension (PRIMARY): This is the type of high blood pressure that is caused by injuries or stress. Another term for this level of hypertension is essential hypertension; other things that can contribute to this is drinking alcohol and smoking (of course) as well as being overweight, your race, the environment in which you live as well as your emotional well being.

Hypertension (SECONDARY): This will occur in a number of women who are pregnant. This type of high blood pressure will also lead to infections of the patient's kidneys as well as leading to artery problems like arteriosclerosis. Another thing that this can cause is the Endocrine Gland going into overdrive and getting out of whack.

Here are some Yoga positions that will aid you in your quest to lower your blood pressure and live a much longer and healthier life.

Sukhasana (The easy pose): This pose will help the patient to straighten their spine as well as helping you to become much more relaxed and serene inside. It is usually done after you have implemented the corpse pose.

Bidalasana (The cat pose): The cat pose will educate the patient to implement movement from the center of the body as well as keeping all movements in sync with breathing.

Pavanamuktasana (The wind relieving pose): No people this doesn't mean that you are taught how to break wind!! (ha-ha) This word is actually derived from a word that is sanskrit for wind or air and the 'mukta' part means release or to be free.

Leg Raises (Double): This Yoga pose will ensure that your whole back will be resting on the floor while you raise both legs straight up. Be sure that your back is on the floor and that your neck and shoulders are very relaxed.

Ardha Matsyendrasana (Half spinal twist): You should be sure to use this pose while someone else is there to spot you. If you do this pose correctly it can help your adrenal glands, your kidneys and your liver. A real benefit from this pose is that it helps to strengthen your spine.
